A depleted Oxford Cheetahs proved no match for Weymouth Wildcats in their challenge match at Wessex Stadium on Saturday night, losing 61-32 writes ROBERT PEASLEY.
The TFSuccess.com Cheetahs depended almost solely on the efforts of Kyle Hughes (14) and Luke Priest (9), who scored all but nine of the team's total.
The Wildcats got off to a perfect start with 5-1's in both the opening two races and led by ten points after five heats.
Although two good legs reduced the deficit to five, Wildcats soon re-established a commanding lead and never looked back.
Heat nine was the killer blow when Harland Cook took a nasty tumble on the second bend, and Hughes finished third behind Lee Smart and Matt Wright.
Weymouth: Herne 14, Wright 10+1, Smart 9+1, Mason 9, Johnson 7+3, Newman 6+2, Bargh 6+1. 61pts.
Oxford: Hughes 14, Priest 9, Cook 4+1, Felton 3, Andrews 1, Day 1, Bates 0. 32pts.
