North Leigh youngster Madi Barnicoat captured a brace of titles at the National Sprint Regatta at the National Water Sports Centre, Nottingham.

The nine-year-old, who trains at Longridge Canoe Club under Ollie Harding, won the girls' under 10 1000m K1 race and the 500m K1 race.

She was also runner-up in the K2 and K4 10000m and the K2 500m races, and had the fastest time in her qualifying heats.

Barnicoat only started kayaking in May and has been placed in all of her events over the summer.

She won the 1000m & 500m races at the National Sprint Regatta in June and triumphed in the 500m again in July.

She also holds the Under 10 Ladies National Marathon 2008 title after winning at Worcester in August.
