KEVIN Baker from Gladiators successfully retained the Oxford Singles Cup when he defeated Roger Goodall from White House 2-1, writes Andy Beal.
Goodall set in the opening leg with three, Baker passing that with four and a stick to spare. Baker then set the next leg with three, which Goodall matched to send it to three-sticks.
They both hit two apiece in the three-sticker to send it to one-stick which they both missed. Back to six sticks, which Baker set three, and in reply, Goodall missed with his first stick but clanged off the doll with his next four to level the game and send it to a final leg.
Baker won the toss and decided to set, which proved to be a wise choice has he banged in a maximum six. Goodall hit the doll with his first stick in reply but missed with his next to give Baker his second win and Goodall’s second loss.

White House set 27 in the second leg and in return Gladiators left anchorman Baker needing all six to win and five to tie, and he nearly pulled it off after hitting four dolls. His final stick flew just over the top of the doll to leave them one short with 26 and send the game into a final leg decider.
White House won the toss and decided to set, hitting an imposing 28. Mixed scoring from Gladiators in return left Baker needing five to win and this time he was successful, clanging off the winning doll with his final stick to give a winning total of 29.
