TWO teenage martial artists will be travelling more than 7,000 miles to compete at the ITF Taekwon-Do World Cup in Argentina.

Lucas Clamp, 14, from Long Wittenham, and 18-year-old Amelia Richardson, from Didcot, who train at Didcot & Watlington Puma Taekwon-Do, will be heading out to Mar del Plata for the World Cup which takes place between October 28 and November 3.

The duo will be flying out with a team of 13 from the county martial arts school.

Their national coach, Jennifer Swain, said: “Amelia is one of our more experienced competitors, having competed internationally since 2017.

“She has been selected for European and world championships multiple times as part of England’s national team.

“This will be Amelia’s final World Cup as a junior before moving on to competing in the adult divisions.

“She has also been England’s junior girls’ team captain, and this is because of her caring and motivating nature towards others.

“Over recent years, she has been training alongside Lucas, encouraging him at national and international tournaments.

“This will be Lucas’ first World Cup. He, like Amelia, trains very hard, both inside and outside of the school.

“The coaching team looks forward to seeing them compete at such a high level. All of their training, competing, training kit and equipment costs money.

“They travel around the country and abroad to train and compete with multiple instructors and coaches, and therefore if we want to continue to have role models, it is really important to support them.

“We are always hopeful that communities will pull together to help raise funds, so any amount of money would be gratefully received to support the team of athletes and coaches at the Taekwon-Do World Cup.”
