KYLE Edwards says that Oxford United will need the differing qualities of all their wingers for the season ahead.
The U’s boast seven wingers within their squad, with Edwards joined by Owen Dale, Malcolm Ebiowei and Matt Phillips in the battle for a spot on the right, while Siriki Dembele, Marselino Ferdinan and Przemyslaw Placheta fight for the left-hand side.
There is an element of flexibility with which wing to play on though, with that demonstrated by Tyler Goodrham, who although regarded as playing his best football in midfield, has continued to shine from a wide role this season.

Edwards said: “We’re going to have loads of different games and you’re going to need different types of players.
“You might need a winger that’s going to go outside and take on the player, or another game where you might need to come inside and have that little bit of creativity. It’s good to have the different types of wingers in the group.”
He added: “We’ve got a lot of talented wingers here at the moment, and we’ve started off doing quite well and playing well.
“The guys are doing well, and I think it’s good for the squad that we have that depth. It brings competition and rises everyone’s levels in training and in the games, so it’s only good for the team.”
