HEADINGTON A capped off the club’s centenary year celebrations by clinching a fourth League Cup in a row.
The final of the Oxfordshire Bowls League competition was hosted under the floodlights at Kidlington, with Headington up against an Adderbury team in their first League Cup final.
Headington were quickest out of the blocks, opening up an 18-shot lead in the game after just seven ends.

Both Jason King and captain Mark Charlett’s four led the charge, extending Headington’s lead by the halfway stage. The other two rinks remained nip and tuck between the two sides.
Headington’s strength and experience in the competition was evident though, helping them adjust well to the floodlights and changing conditions, as they marched on towards their 14th League Cup title.
Adderbury’s Phil Gladden and captain Ted Eley’s four ended up finishing with very close games on both rinks, impressing the Kidlington crowd with solid performances in difficult conditions.
Winning captain Charlett commented afterwards: “The final was played in great spirit and was a fitting climax to our centenary year, and the 20th year of the League Cup competition.
“I would like to congratulate Adderbury on a really good season for the club, and for their promotion back to the first division.
“I would also like to thank John Henwood and Paul Mabbutt for getting the League Cup started 20 years ago, and to its first ever sponsor Sammy Timms, who’s back with us this evening.”
