MARK Harris’ razor-sharp form for Oxford United has seen him nominated for the Sky Bet Championship player of the month award for August.

The 25-year-old striker scored four goals in four league games, netting against Norwich City, Coventry City, Blackburn Rovers and Preston North End.

His goal against Rovers at Ewood Park was without doubt the pick of the bunch, and will take some beating this season.

The Welshman opened the scoring for the U’s, when Matt Phillips chested down Jamie Cumming’s long ball forward into his path, with Harris pinging a sweetly struck 35-yard first-time volley which looped over Aynsley Pears in the Rovers goal.

Harris, who won the League One player of the month award in April, is nominated alongside Sunderland centre back Luke O’Nien, who netted twice and helped keep three clean sheets for the league leaders, plus forwards Josh Maja and Duncan Watmore.

West Bromwich Albion’s Maja scored four goals in four games, including a hat-trick at Queens Park Rangers, while Millwall’s Watmore also grabbed four goals in four matches.

Meanwhile, former United winger Jodi Jones has been nominated for the League Two player of the month award.

Jones, who won the League Two player of the year gong last season, notched two goals and three assists in August.
