MARK Harris hopes to continue learning under Craig Bellamy, as the Oxford United striker gets ready for potential international action this evening.

Harris is away with Wales, having been selected in new head coach Bellamy’s first international squad.

Wales host Turkey in a UEFA Nations League clash tonight, before visiting Montenegro in the same competition on Monday evening.

Harris, who has five caps for Wales, was last on international duty when he was part of the 26-man squad for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, however he failed to make an appearance as his country finished bottom of Group B, behind England, USA and Iran.

His last cap came in June 2022, when Wales were beaten 2-1 by Poland in a Nations League match.

The connection between Harris and Bellamy, who was previously the assistant manager at Burnley, stretches back to when the latter worked in the Cardiff City academy.

Harris said: “I would’ve been in the Under-16s, or maybe the Under-18s. He came in, and didn’t really have an age group, but he’d be here, there and everywhere helping out the younger lads.

“He was brilliant to me, and he hasn’t kept in contact, but every now and then, we’ve kept in contact.

“He did well at Burnley, and now he’s got his own job at Wales, and I’m sure he’ll do great.

“I’ve learnt loads of stuff off him already. When I was with him at the Under-18s, he was always pushing for more and giving me little tips, and things like that really.

“I’ve learnt a lot off him already, and I’m sure I’ll learn an awful lot of more.”

Discussing his call-up, Harris said: “When I got the email, I was a very happy boy, let’s just put it that way. It was a proud moment for me and my family.

“It’s the first time I’ve been called up since I’ve been at Oxford, and I missed a full season with Wales.

“Hopefully I can get some minutes and show everybody what I can do. It’s a proud moment for me and my family.”

Harris, who has four goals in four Sky Bet Championship games for the U’s this season, will be vying with the likes of Liam Cullen (Swansea City), Brennan Johnson (Tottenham Hotspur), Lewis Koumas (Stoke City, on loan from Liverpool), Kieffer Moore (Sheffield United) and Harry Wilson (Fulham) for a place in the Wales forward line.

“I think pressure is a good thing. If you haven’t got pressure, you’re not playing in the big games,” said Harris.

“There’s going to be pressure on me, but there’s always pressure on me. I’ve had pressure since I started playing.

“I wouldn’t say the more pressure the better, but it’s just a part of the game.”
