FORMER Oxford United defender Luke McNally has completed a deadline day move from Burnley to Bristol City for an undisclosed fee.

The 24-year-old centre back has signed a four-year deal at Ashton Gate, and links up with fellow former U’s players Rob Atkinson, Rob Dickie, Marcus McGuane and Mark Sykes, plus head coach Liam Manning.

McNally joined United in January 2021, and made 35 appearances before a reported £1.6 million move to Burnley in June 2022.

He had loan spells with Coventry City and Stoke City while at Burnley, and now joins the Robins on a permanent basis.

McNally told the Robins website: “I am really excited and very grateful to be at a club like Bristol City. I am excited to get going and getting to see the training ground and meeting all the people has been great.

“I wanted to join for the project really, and the manager has been successful, and I can see he is really building something here.

“There seems to be a good buzz around the club at the minute and hopefully I can help with that.”

Manning, who was appointed U’s boss after McNally left the club, added: “Luke has a great pedigree and a lot of experience at Championship level.

“He has all the attributes you would want in a defender, and we are pleased he is joining us. He gives us another great option and is the type of player and person we want in the building.”
