OXFORD United have signed Indonesia winger Marselino Ferdinan on a free transfer.

The 19-year-old, who can also operate as an attacking midfielder, becomes United’s 13th addition of the summer transfer window.

His career began in Indonesia, with Persebaya, before he moved to Belgian second tier side KMSK Deinze, who he left this summer.

Ferdinan has won 26 caps for his country, netting three times.

The U’s have been owned by Indonesian investors Anindya Bakrie and Erick Thohir since September 2022, when a deal was finalised that saw the two take a controlling 51 per cent stake in the club.

United head of football operations Ed Waldron told the club website: “Marselino is a very exciting and promising young player, and we are excited to see how he develops in our group.

“The club has strong ties with Indonesia and through our continuous conversations, we were made aware of Marselino’s ability.

“While unproven at this level, it is clear that Marselino is extremely talented with good international experience, and it will be exciting to see how he adapts to life at Oxford United.

“We have a fantastic environment at the training ground, and we feel it’s the perfect opportunity for Marselino to test his abilities and develop alongside the experience we have in his position.”

Ferdinan becomes the 13th player to join United this summer, following goalkeepers Jamie Cumming, Matt Ingram and Jacob Knightbridge, full backs Jack Currie and Peter Kioso, midfield trio Idris El Mizouni, Louie Sibley and Will Vaulks, wingers Malcolm Ebiowei, Matt Phillips and Przemyslaw Placheta, and striker Dane Scarlett.
