OXFORD United did something no newly promoted team to the second tier has done since 2010.

In beating Norwich City 2-0, the U’s became the first newly promoted side to win their opening game of a Sky Bet Championship season by a margin of two goals, while also keeping a clean sheet.

The last team to do that was Millwall, who beat Bristol City 3-0 at the start of the 2010/11 campaign, thanks to goals from Darren Ward, Danny Schofield and Paul Robinson.

In the Millwall side that day was James Henry, who was replaced in the 81st minute by Chris Hackett.

Henry of course was released by United in the summer, after a brilliant seven years with the club.

The 35-year-old came off the bench to grab an equaliser on his Aldershot Town debut yesterday, netting with 10 minutes to go as the Shots drew 3-3 at home to Forest Green Rovers in the Vanarama National League.

Hackett meanwhile celebrated the U’s win against the Canaries in what was his first game as officially an assistant coach in Des Buckingham’s backroom staff.

Hackett moved across from academy duties to the first team last season, and that role has now been formalised as first team assistant coach and head of individual development, also helping ease the transition for young players from the academy.
