OXFORD United host Norwich City in their Sky Bet Championship opener on Saturday, with the Canaries squad stacked full of experience and talent.

Although the Canaries are reeling from the blow of losing star man Gabriel Sara to Galatasaray last week, they brought in a reported £20 million for the transfer and still boast a strong side.

We picked out six Norwich players to keep an eye on this weekend.

Angus Gunn

A £5m signing from Southampton in June 2021, goalkeeper Gunn has gone on to play 86 times for the Canaries, including nine times in the Premier League.

The 28-year-old, who was born in Norwich, played a further 51 times for his home club during a year on loan from Manchester City in the 2017/18 campaign.

Gunn was Scotland’s first choice keeper at the Euros this summer, and has kept four clean sheets in 13 caps for his country.

Grant Hanley

Appearing alongside Gunn at Euro 2024 was Canaries captain Hanley.

The experienced 32-year-old centre back previously played for Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United, and joined Norwich in August 2017.

He’s played 193 matches for the Canaries, and has won 53 caps for Scotland.

Kenny McLean

A third Canaries player in the Scotland squad this summer was midfielder McLean.

He’s been at Carrow Road since January 2018, scoring 13 times in 228 appearances. Sixty-eight of those games have come in the Premier League.

The 32-year-old has won 42 caps and came off the bench in all three of Scotland’s games at the Euros.

Jonathan Rowe

Linked with Leeds United this week, the 21-year-old winger is hot property after a sparkling campaign last time out.

He started the 2023/24 season with five goals in five games, and finished the campaign with 13 strikes in 38 appearances across all competitions.

Borja Sainz

Another wide man to watch out for is 23-year-old Spaniard Sainz.

He joined the Canaries last summer and had a promising debut season, although he was possibly somewhat overshadowed in the final third by Rowe and Sara.

Sainz still managed eight goals in 39 matches, with bigger things expected of him this season as Norwich look to cope without the brilliance of Sara.

Josh Sargent

Signed from Werder Bremen for a reported £8m in August 2021, American forward Sargent needed a year to get up to speed, but netted 13 times during the 2022/23 campaign.

He backed that up with 16 goals in 30 games last season, after damaging ankle ligaments led to a four-month lay-off between the end of August and the end of December.
