OXFORD United chairman Grant Ferguson has backed the launch of away memberships this summer, but acknowledged the club is looking at alternative schemes moving forward.

Away memberships were launched last month, guaranteeing fans access to tickets for all away fixtures in Sky Bet Championship this coming season.

For £30, supporters with an away membership get a 24-hour priority sales window, with membership limited to the first 1,000 fans on a first come, first served basis.

Despite criticism of the scheme and how it was communicated, the away memberships sold out in just over an hour.

Ferguson told BBC Radio Oxford’s The Dub podcast: “It was always planned. It’s very common with other clubs.

“It was explained to me before we did it, and I thought it was a very equitable thing to do.

“It may have come a little late in the grand scheme of things, but it was a good product because it sold out very quickly.

“I think it’s the right product, I think it’s an excellent product at a very reasonable price.”

He added: “We’re putting in a much better customer relationship management system that will provide us with much deeper data that we can potentially use.

“There were 19,000, almost 20,000, individuals who attended matches at the Kassam last season.

“There are a lot of people who have a lot of interest, and some of those people come to two or three matches, and others go to 10 matches.

“There is a whole spectrum of the supporter base which we are trying to address.”
