JAMES Henry has joined Vanarama National League side Aldershot Town following his release from Oxford United this summer.

The 35-year-old midfielder has signed for the Shots for the 2024/25 season after they finished eighth in the National League last time out.

Henry’s exploits for United wrote himself into modern U’s folklore, with his 58 goals ensuring only 10 players have scored more than him in the club’s history.

Those goals include the winner at Doncaster Rovers in April 2018, to help preserve Sky Bet League One safety, and his wonderful hat-trick at home to Lincoln City in August 2021.

Shots boss Tommy Widdrington told the club website: “He’s trained with the group over the past few weeks and shown not only excellent football awareness and ability, but an assured and measured approach to whatever we have thrown at him.

“His record most recently at Oxford United is a measure of how he looks after himself, and his experience will be an attribute I feel we need at the club.

“This addition strengthens our attacking options and I feel it shows our intention of improving on last season’s efforts and I’m sure the Shots family will all join me in welcoming James to The EBB Stadium.”

Henry progressed through the academy at Reading, where he had loan spells at Nottingham Forest, AFC Bournemouth, Norwich City and Millwall, before then signing permanently for the latter in July 2010.

He then joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2014, following a successful loan stint, before switching to United in July 2017, after spending the 2016/17 campaign on loan at Bolton Wanderers.
