OXFORD Spires smashed the 50-point barrier for the first time this season, with a 53-37 home win over Belle Vue Aces.

The victory took Spires to just a point behind third-placed Belle Vue in the Premiership table, with the two sides meeting again in Manchester on Monday evening.

Spires skipper Chris Harris regained his track record when he set a time of 57.34 seconds in Heat 4, but lost it two heats later when Dan Bewley lowered the time to 57.12 seconds.

Spires put in a superb display, with Belle Vue not taking a single heat advantage all night. Harris and Rohan Tungate led the charge with 12+1 apiece, while Maciej Janowski (9+1) and Erik Riss (8+3) also collected double figures.
