The Oxford Cheetahs have made an emergency signing to cover for an injured rider.

Adam Roynon has put pen to paper on a temporary 28-day deal to take the place of the injured Henry Atkins.

Atkins broke a finger earlier in the season and has had to have surgery to fix the injury.

He will be out of action for at least a further month.

Roynan, aged 35, has been a speedway regular since his junior days, riding for clubs such as Workington, Redcar, Kings Lynn, Poole, and Coventry.

He was a part of the 2023 Poole Pirates side before being injured at Edinburgh, breaking his shoulder in four places.

Since then, he has been filling his time with the British Speedway Network, a regular presenter from their pitside studio.

Team manager Peter Schroeck said: “Adam fits the bill and we know he can come in and do the job for Cheetahs.

“It’s been hard getting hold of suitable guests for Henry, while our thanks goes to Jacob Hook who did a great job in the several meetings he came in for us.

“With Henry still due to be out for a while, we had to make a move to make sure we maintain our push for the play-offs in the Cab Direct Championship and that is to bring in Adam for an initial spell of 28 days.”
