Banbury United have confirmed their third summer signing with midfielder Gift Mussa putting pen to paper.

The Malawi-born midfielder who grew up in Coventry has had spells at Coventry United, Leamington, Nuneaton Borough and Tamworth, whilst most recently turning out for Redditch United.

Gift won the Southern League Premier Central title whilst at Tamworth, with the 28-year-old playing more than 40 games in the 2022-23 campaign, having been a regular during a vital season in their recent history.

Simon Hollyhead’s side will play in the Southern League Premier Division Central after the club were released from Vanarama National League North last season.

Gift said: “After speaking to Simon for a few days and discussing the Club’s aim and vision, I’m really pleased to sign for Banbury and commit for the upcoming season.

"I can sense the hunger for success in the air from all the staff and those involved with the club and it was therefore an easy decision for me to make.

"I look forward to meeting all the fans and players. I believe we’ll create memories both the fans and players can be proud of."

Gift becomes Banbury United's third signing this summer after defender Yaw Ofosu and 18-year-old goalkeeper Logan Elliott.

Ofosu was Hollyhead’s first summer signing, following the player’s departure from Alvechurch FC.

Yaw began his senior career at Newport Pagnell in the United Counties League before earning a move to Cambridge City in November 2019.

His spell at the Lillywhites saw him accumulate over 100 appearances across four years, winning accolades such as players’ player and supporters’ player of the year along the way.

This alerted the attention of Step 3 side, Alvechurch, and they secured his signature ahead of the 23/24 season.

The central defender left Alvechurch making 40 appearances and with a Worcestershire Senior Cup medal to his name.

The 27-year-old said: “Simon is a big reason for joining Banbury. The conversations we’ve had were very positive with a clear plan. I’m delighted to be here and can’t wait to play for this club.”

Reserve goalkeeper Elliott joined United after playing Bedworth U18s and reserves last season.

Elliott said: "I’m delighted to be joining the club. After hearing many good things about Banbury and the fans I felt like it was an easy decision for me to make and I’m excited to get started."
