ATHLETES from Witney and District Swimming Club helped create a slice of history at recent regional championships.
The club secured its highest ever finish at the Oxfordshire and North Buckinghamshire Counties Championships, while finishing as the top Oxfordshire side.
More than 60 swimmers from the Witney club took part across January and February, and helped claim third place overall, out of 16 clubs.
Eighty-seven medals were secured, including 34 golds, 26 silver and 27 bronze.

Hattie Lever won the junior championship in the 50m butterfly, 200m butterfly, 400m front crawl, and 1,500m front crawl. She was also second in the junior 100m fly, junior 200m front crawl, junior 800m front crawl, senior 400m front crawl, and senior 1,500m front crawl.
Annaliese Elford won the junior championships in the 50m breaststroke, in addition to second-place finishes in the junior 100m breaststroke, junior 400m individual medley, and senior 400m individual medley.
Erin Stewart also enjoyed success, finishing second in the senior 50m backstroke, while Beth Lefort was second in the junior 50m breaststroke and third in the junior 100m breaststroke. Annabel Barnard was third in the junior 50m butterfly.
Barnard, Elford, Lever and Grace Clear linked up to secure silver medals in the girls’ junior 4x50m medley relay.
Elford, Lever, Stewart and Maya Thorsdottir-Saldana claimed bronze in the girls’ senior 4x50m medley relay, while Barnard, Elford, Lever and Ella Green also won bronze, in the girls’ junior 4x50m front crawl relay.
