WILL Goodwin is expected to be fit and ready to go for Oxford United’s trip to Blackpool next weekend.

The 21-year-old striker has yet to make his U’s debut after signing from Cheltenham Town earlier this month.

United’s medical team identified a minor quad problem when the centre forward was undergoing tests prior to joining the club.

U’s head coach Des Buckingham explained last week that Goodwin would be temporarily left out of the squad, in order to avoid a longer term injury.

Speaking prior to the defeat at home to Barnsley, Buckingham said: “It was picked up during our medical. The medical team have got a really thorough process to work through, and he cleared the medical.

“There was some additional testing we did on his quad, and it just flagged up a very small thing in the quad, that if we’d have played him, there’s a chance it could’ve ripped or torn, and he could’ve been out for four, six or 10 weeks, depending on the tear.”

Buckingham has now though put a date on when he expects Goodwin to feature for United for the first time, saying: “He’ll be fit for Blackpool.”

The U’s face both Portsmouth and Reading at home before then, and travel to Blackpool on February 10.
