OXFORD United have had a bid rejected by Cheltenham Town for their striker Will Goodwin, according to reports.

Both the U’s and fellow Sky Bet League One side Charlton Athletic, managed by former United boss Michael Appleton, have had offers turned down, according to Gloucestershire Live.

Goodwin, 21, has scored six goals in 16 League One games this season, with all of his goals coming in his last nine league appearances.

The striker, who had scored just once in the Football League before this season, has become a key player since Darrell Clarke became Robins manager.

Goodwin opened his account for the campaign with a brace in a 3-2 defeat at Blackpool on October 24, before scoring in four consecutive games, beginning against the U’s.

He scrambled in from close range to make it 2-0 in Des Buckingham’s first game as head coach.

Further goals then followed against Charlton, Bristol Rovers and Leyton Orient.

Goodwin signed for Cheltenham for a fee of £20,000, from Stoke City, last January.

The Robins are third from bottom in League One, and went 11 league games without scoring earlier this season, setting a new Football League record for consecutive matches without scoring at the beginning of a campaign.
