RUBEN Rodrigues has admitted that he would like to see his old boss at Notts County take the hot seat at Oxford United.

The Portuguese midfielder signed for the U’s from the Magpies in the summer, and took his goal tally to four for the season with a brace in United’s 3-2 win at Leyton Orient.

The U’s are on the hunt for a new head coach following Liam Manning’s decision to join Sky Bet Championship side Bristol City, with Magpies boss Luke Williams and Mumbai City’s Des Buckingham the two current favourites among the bookmakers.

Rodrigues said: “I’ve seen Frank Lampard, which for me when I was a young kid, I was watching the Premier League and Chelsea, it’d be a legend coming in, but I don’t really look at Twitter or the odds. That’s the only thing I’ve seen.

“I hope Luke Williams, but I can’t say too much. I can’t say it because I love Notts County.”

It is understood that Lampard, although another among the current favourites, is not being considered by United’s board.

On Manning’s exit, Rodrigues said: “Of course it’s a change because the day-to-day thing, you expect to see him and have a conversation.

“It’s a change but at the end of the day, it’s football. You have to do what’s asked of you, and everyone is doing an amazing job behind the scenes.”

Discussing his double against Orient, he said: “It was a very enjoyable afternoon for myself and the football club.

“I’ve been told I need to shoot more. The first one, Sparky [Mark Harris] did well. We always press, and from the press, the goalkeeper shanked it into Sparky’s feet.

“He waited well and gave it to me, and then I just shifted it out of my feet and hit it.

“The second one wasn’t the nicest, but I had to be there. It was an amazing feeling for me.”

The 27-year-old added: “You always have to work hard for the team, that’s the minimum you can ask yourself to do. I’m never shy to work hard for the team.

“Coming to England definitely helped the scrappy side. That’s the National League coming out, but I’m glad I had that experience.”
