KEN Charles’ penalty was enough to move Banbury United up to 10th in Vanarama National League North.
The spot kick was converted with 10 minutes to go after Emmanuel Maja was tripped as he drove into the penalty area.
Charles sent Southport goalkeeper Chris Renshaw the wrong way to secure a 1-0 win for the Puritans.
The result pushed Mark Jones’ side up to 10th in the table and two points off the play-off places.

North Leigh slipped to three points behind Southern League Central Division leaders Bedford Town after suffering a 2-1 loss at home to struggling Welwyn Garden City.
Kidlington enjoyed a 3-0 victory at Hadley, while Thame United dropped to the bottom of the table after a 1-0 defeat away to Kempston Rovers.
