LIAM Manning is expecting a different Wycombe Wanderers side to the one Oxford United have faced in recent years.

The Chairboys have become something of a bogey team for United, with the U’s tasting victory just once in the last six meetings.

Wanderers have won the last three clashes without conceding a goal, while a clean sheet was also kept in a goalless draw immediately prior to the current run.

The Chairboys also beat United when the teams met in the Sky Bet League One play-off final back in July 2020.

Gareth Ainsworth oversaw that game and was Wycombe boss for more than a decade, before taking over at Queens Park Rangers in February.

Former Chairboys captain Matt Bloomfield is now in charge of the Buckinghamshire side, with a change in playing style underway, moving from the direct approach favoured by Ainsworth.

U’s head coach Manning said: “Bloomers is someone I have a huge amount of respect for. He was a couple of years older than me in the youth team at Ipswich, so I’ve known him quite a long time.

“It was always going to be extremely difficult to follow Gareth Ainsworth and he’s done a terrific job so far.

“They’ve got their differences and we’ve watched numerous games, so we know what we think they’ll try and do, and what their strengths and weaknesses are, and they’ll definitely bring challenges.”
