CAMERON Brannagan looks set to miss Oxford United’s trip to Wigan Athletic tonight.

The midfielder was unavailable for the weekend’s draw at home to Blackpool through illness.

U’s head coach Liam Manning offered an update on the situation at his pre-game press conference yesterday, saying: “It looks like he’s still struggling at the minute, as are one or two others.

“It’s not ideal news, but it is what it is. It’s why we’ve got the depth and the quality.”

Asked about Brannagan’s chances of being available for the home clash with Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday, Manning said: “We’ll have to see how he goes, it’s about taking it day by day.

“When you’ve been wiped out for a week like he has, we’ll get him back in and see how he is.”

Discussing the illness within the United squad, Manning added: “What you don’t want to do is rush them back in too soon if their energy is low, or you can increase their chances of picking up something else.

“We’ve got a strong medical department which will make sure we’ll do what’s right to get him and the others back in and ready to go.

“There are a few bits flying around at different levels. Cam’s the worst by quite a bit, but it is what it is.

“It’s that time of the year where the weather changes a bit and there tends to be more bugs flying around.

“It’s disappointing and frustrating, but what it does do is give opportunity for somebody else.”
