FORMER Oxford United striker Jefferson Louis has found himself a new club – the 43rd of his career.

The 44-year-old striker has left Vanarama National League South side Slough Town, where he was a player and performance coach, to join Beaconsfield Town in Southern League Premier South.

Louis, who has also played for Oxford City, Banbury United and North Leigh during a remarkable career, will combine playing and coaching at Beaconsfield, working with the other forwards at the club.

He has already played five times for the Rams this season, scoring twice.

Manager Jon Underwood told the club website: “Jeff is a fantastic character, a real winner and has already had a major influence on our dressing room when he’s been with us. 

“I am extremely grateful to Slough manager Scott Davies, who has made this process very easy and straightforward, and being a good friend of Jeff’s he has allowed this to happen to give him a chance to get the regular football that he still craves.”

Louis joined Slough in June after a spell with Thame United. He made five appearances for the Berkshire side.

Davies told the club website: “Jeff will be moving over to Beaconsfield as a player-coach. Having recently been on dual registration with Jon Underwood, he has seen the value of what Jeff brings to the pitch and the changing room.

“Jeff came in as our performance coach but then became an option for us off the bench from time to time. Having performed so well in pre-season, it made sense to give him a squad number as he offers something different to what we had.

“At 44 years old, Jeff knows that game time with us will be limited and having played a few matches recently for Beaconsfield, he feels as though he wants to play on a more consistent basis for one more season.

“Jeff has been huge for us around the club since the beginning of July and we’ll miss the energy he adds to both the management team and the squad, but we agreed that it fits well for him and his family which is most important.”

Louis scored 10 goals in 64 games while a U’s player between 2002 and 2004, and is fondly remembered for netting the only goal of the game in an FA Cup second round tie at home to Swindon Town.

Television cameras in the dressing room famously caught the centre forward celebrating drawing Arsenal away in the third round, as he accidentally showed his backside to the nation while he sported just a towel.
