ANGLING: The second round of the Oxford Super League was held on the Thames at Godstow, Medley and Folly with bream figuring in the top weights.

Charlie Somerton, of Garbolino Banbury Gunsmiths, topped the field of 79 with 38.9.0, all bream caught on pole-fished worm over chopped worm and caster.

In second spot was Robin Cave (Fox Match Isis) with 25.10.0 of bream on worm and groundbait feeder, followed by teammate John Hasler with 21.1.0 of bream on pole-fished worm.

Bream also acounted for the next three places.

The fourth round of the Oxford Carp League 2008 was staged at Rissington, which produced 100lb-plus weights of carp for the top three anglers.

Leading them home was Steve Waters with 103.8.0 of carp on the pole with corn, fished in the margins.

There was a tie for second between Matt Ryan (Predator) and Nick Dean.

Both fished the long pole shallow, with pellet on the hook, to take 100.8.0 of carp.

The start of tomorrow's league fixture at Alder's Farm has been brought forward to 12 noon.

Two big bream and some skimmers earned Jim Foster the Jack Nichols Cup when Marston AC fished the Cherwell.

The winner used feeder and worm to top the field with 13.7.0.

In second place was Pete Clarke with roach and skimmers on pole and caster for 8.2.0, followed by Graham Bradshaw, who caught one good bream, plus some bits, for 7.11.0 on pole and worm.

Bream featured highly in Benson's Berks & Oxon match fished by 14 on the local stretch of the Thames.

Doug Cook caught 49.6.0 of them on corn and red maggot to emerge victorious.

Bill Davies was second with 15.13.0 of bream on red maggot, followed by Ray Dandridge with 8.1.0 comprising one bream and one chub.

Sixteen Beehive anglers fished their FA and UEFA Cup quarter-finals on a very windy Lower Court which made presentation difficult for most.

Andy Waters was forced to fish the margins because of the wind and triumphed with 78.15.0 on pole with corn and pellet.

In second place was Kevin Jeacock with 73.4.0 of skimmers and orfe to pole and maggot, while Steve Dingle was third with 57.4.0 to pellet waggler.
