TENNIS: Oxford City and Oxford Sports fought out a thrilling 4.5-4.5 draw in Ladies Division 1 of the Wilson OLTA 3-Pair League.

And City probably felt the more relieved at the end to get a point as they trailed going into the final round.

Cressida Henderson and Lesley Cundy were in supreme form for Sports, beating in-form Barbara Gibbons and Esther Symmonds 6-4, 6-4 as they reeled off all six sets.

But Gibbons and Symmonds defeated their opposing first pair, Ciara Kelly and Millie Milsom, 6-1, 6-2, and Jo Love and Katja Hartwich also overcame their final rubber opponents, Sue Teeling and Maggie Jutton, 6-3, 6-4 to ensure honours even.

Both teams, though, remain some way behind runaway leaders North Oxford A, who look certs for the title.

Another close finish came at Goring, who edged past Cholsey 5-4 with Sue Taylor and Jax Maclachlan unbeaten. Goring were always ahead, but Taylor and Maclachlan's 6-2, 6-4 victory over Lizzie Vernon and Charlotte Turner at the end proved vital.

Banbury West End's first pair Karen Taylor and Gemma Gardner were undefeated in their team's 6.5-2.5 win over Woodstock, although they were taken to three sets by Jenny Corfield and Sarah Stoddart.

In Men's Division 2, there was no stopping North Oxford B, who steamrollered Banbury B 8-1 to enhance their promotion prospects.

Dave and Jack Rooney chalked up three successes, with Banbury B's third pair winning only three games all day.

Goring B continued their march at the top by winning 7-2 at Woodstock B.
