A magnificent unbeaten century from Akbar Ansari put Cambridge firmly in the driving seat after the first day of the four-day Varsity Match in The Parks.
Ansari, who celebrates his 20th birthday today, was the star of the show after Oxford had made a promising start, having lost the toss.
They sent back the first five Light Blues for just 85, Ed Morse accounting for three dismissals, but Ansari stood firm and found an ally in New Zealander Nick Whittington.
The pair put on 216 before Whittington was caught for 83, which included ten fours.
Ansari, who has played for Surrey 2nd XI, reached 153 not out off 332 balls, with 21 fours as Cambridge closed on 303-6.
Morse was the Dark Blues most successful bowler with 3-70 off 23 overs.
