Stand-off Shane Turner scored a hat-trick of tries as Oxford Cavaliers broke their away duck and got their first double of the season with a 44-24 win at Wolverhampton Wizards in RL Conference South West & Midlands League.

It was the second time Turner has scored a trio of tries against Wizards.

Cavaliers, sponsored by Oxford & Cherwell Valley College, went 12-0 up in the first ten minutes through Jack Briggs and Turner's first, with both tries converted by the latter.

Wolverhampton stormed into a 14-12 lead with three tries.

Alex Benjamin went over after centre Tom Olley's inside pass to make it 18-14.

Just before half-time, Wolverhampton levelled.

After the break, Cavaliers restored their lead when skipper Joe McAneaney burst over from ten yards for a converted try.

The best move of the game saw young winger Pat Siret pounce on Turner's superb grubber kick, before plunging over the line, the conversion giving Cavaliers a 28-18 lead.

Centre Stewart Hannah set up Turner for his second.

Turner completed his hat-trick after a good break from full back Tom Briggs.

Briggs wrapped up it up with his second try after good work between McAneaney, Turner and Hannah.

Late on, Wizards were reduced to 12 men when they had a player sent off for retaliation after a scuffle with McAneaney.

"During the half-time team talk I had to tell the players to stick to basics", said Cavaliers coach Mark Shaw.

"The mood was calm because we knew we could raise our game after the interval.

"It was an outstanding team performance in the second half, Joe McAneaney, Kevin Mason and Shane Turner had their best games of the season."
