OXFORD City conceded late on as they were beaten 2-1 at home to Vanarama National League promotion favourites Chesterfield.

The visitors scored at the closing stage of each half, with a Tom Naylor header giving them the lead before half-time, and former Northern Ireland striker Will Grigg bagging the winner with two minutes to go in the second period.

Sandwiched in between, Josh Parker grabbed his third goal of the season with a volley inside the six-yard box.

Hoops head coach Ross Jenkins said: “That one probably hurt more than Rochdale. We’re disappointed to concede that type of goal, but I thought we were different class. I thought we had done enough.

“It may sound stupid, but I am delighted with the attitude we came with against that Chesterfield side, and we’ve set our standards now.

“To concede the late goal, a bit against the run of play, was a sucker punch after scoring a really nice goal.”
