A brilliant spell of pace bowling from Luke Merry paved the way for Thame Town's exciting two-run victory against Wokingham on Saturday.

The game looked all over with Wokingham on 188-7 chasing Thame's 203 all out.

But the re-introduction of Merry proved crucial as he captured two wickets in a late burst to settle a pulsating clash.

Rob Brooks top-scored with 34 as Thame's batsmen failed to build on good starts, Luke Merry chipping in with a valuable 31.

Merry then dismissed Wokingham's overseas player, Dan Doran, in the first over as Thame got off to a flying start.

They constantly mixed their bowling attack and would not let the Wokingham batsmen settle with Steve Merry, Michael Higgs and Jaydeep Bhatti all creating pressure on a wicket that was beginning to turn.

Wokingham captain Dan Reddyhough was the backbone of the innings and he looked like steering his side home.

But with Wokingham poised at 188-7, Merry bowled Martin Wilson and trapped Reddyhough, who made 77, lbw to complete a thrilling victory.
