Oxford United were casting their eye over four new faces in training on Thursday as manager Darren Patterson seeks to strengthen his squad for the new season.

Liam Kelly, a young player who came through the ranks at MK Dons, can play in either midfield or at right back.

Nineteen-year-old forward Reuben Reid can play up front or on the wing.

He began his career at Plymouth and had loan spells at Kidderminster, Torquay and Wycombe before ending last season at Brentford.

Born in Bristol, Reid played in Kidderminster's 0-0 draw with Oxford United at Aggborough Stadium in October 2006.

Rob Davies, 20, is a former Wales Youth international midfielder who moved from Wrexham to West Brom before a loan spell at Kidderminster.

He then spent some time playing in Spain and is now looking to get a chance back in England.

The quartet was completed by defender Rhys Meynell, a former Barnsley youngster who made 13 appearances at left back in the Scottish Premier League with Gretna last season.

The 19-year-old, who was on loan at the crisis-hit Scottish club, scored in Gretna's 4-2 win over Kilmarnock in February.

"All four have come in to train so we can see how they get on and they can see if they like the way we do things here," Patterson said.

"We are still talking to a number of transfer targets and getting close with them, and there are a few other players who we will hopefully take a look at in training over the next few days."
