The top of the table clash in the Premier Section between Gladiators A and White House lived up to its billing as White House sneaked a 2-1 win with some top throwing. The opening leg was tied 24-24 and in the three-stick shoot-out, Gladiators once again showed why they are the kings of three sticks when they set an amazing 18. White House bounced straight back by smashing in a set of 30 to the Glad’s reply of 22.
In the final leg, Gladiators set 28 and it looked to be enough when in reply White House could only muster up four dolls between their first two players, however in a remarkable turnaround, 25 dolls from their next six players saw them over the line by one doll.
The George A closed the gap at the top of Section One to a point after they defeated leaders Red Lion B Cassington on their own patch. With the game poised at 1-1, the final leg was decided on three sticks in The George’s favour.
In the top the table clash in Section Two between leaders Chequers B and Red Lion B Kidlington saw the leaders claim a 3-0 win, however the game was closer than the score suggests.
Lion set the first leg with 18 and a slow reply by the Chequers saw them needing eight from their last two players, with Ian Gillett hitting four and Chris Webb completing the mission with five. Chequers went two up in the next leg, winning it 21-19 and completed the whitewash in the final leg 21-17.
Donnington Club D remain unbeaten in Section Three after beating closest rivals Kidlington FC 3-0. They raced into a 2-0 lead but had to rely on a three-sticker in the final leg. The Tandem’s poor form continues as they lost their fifth on the trot, at home to Vikings Sports 2-1. Neil Clarkson’s 13 dolls (5-4-4) were in vain for Tandem, while Mick Morbey top scored for Vikings with a dozen dolls (5-3-4).
