FORMER Oxford United favourite Gavin Whyte has signed for John Mousinho’s Portsmouth.
The old teammates have reunited on the south coast, with Whyte signing a three-year deal.
The 27-year-old Northern Ireland international has been heavily linked with Pompey throughout the summer, with his contract at Cardiff City expiring.

Mousinho, who left the U’s in January to take his first managerial role, told the Pompey club website: “Out of all the players we’ve signed, he’s the first one that I actually played with and he’s a great character.
“He had an outstanding first season when he came over to Oxford from Northern Ireland, and went to Cardiff off the back of that.
“Gavin is a pacy and direct winger, who can carry the ball and really catches the eye whenever he’s on the pitch.
“He’s someone that we believe will really excite everybody at Fratton Park and be an excellent addition to our side.”
Whyte left United for Cardiff in July 2019, joining the Sky Bet Championship side for an undisclosed fee, understood to be in the region of £2 million.
He found the net seven times in 36 league appearances for the U’s in the 2018/19 season, after signing from Crusaders for approximately £100,000.
Whyte then rejoined United on loan from Cardiff for the 2021/22 campaign, grabbing 10 assists and scoring once in 37 League One games.
