Nathan Hawkes hopes playing well for Oxfordshire will help secure him a full-time contract with Northamptonshire.
The 19-year-old hit a free-flowing 92 on his championship debut against Wilts and hopes to stay involved throughout the summer.
Hawkes is part of the Northants Academy, but is also playing for Banbury in the Home Counties Premier League.
He said: "I was quite pleased with my debut. I was disappointed I didn't get to three figures. I got a start in the first innings and then in the second, I didn't quite get over the finish line."
"I gave a couple of chances, but I thought I capitalised well."
Hawkes learns week by week whether he will be playing for Northants Academy or Banbury on a Saturday.
He is also involved in 2nd XI games for Northants and is effectively a full-time player, having completed a college course in sports development and fitness.
He added: "Hopefully, I will get a few more runs and wickets this summer, and then in the winter get a full-time contract with Northants.
"Playing in the Minor Counties Championship will help me, as you face a lot of experienced players-It makes you think in different ways."
Hawkes also picked up a wicket against Wilts, and hopes to prove himself a genuine all-rounder.
He added: "Playing with the Academy or Banbury, they are both good standards of cricket, so hopefully I am progressing all the time.
"I am already looking forward to the trophy semi-final against Berkshire at Banbury.
"The opportunity to play at Lord's would be a great bonus."
Oxfordshire captain Ian Hawtin felt the draw was a fair result after a match in which both they and Wiltshire had their moments.
Hawtin said: "We didn't do ourselves any favours in the first innings with the bat. The wicket turned out to be very, very flat, so it was difficult to bowl sides out.
"The first target today was to save the game. I thought we batted well and Rob Williams's innings got us back into it, so we could declare.
"At one point we could easily have been just 200 ahead.
"We gave them something to go at.
"We needed some early wickets, but Shirazi did really well.
"It was probably a fair result at the end of the day."
