SOUTH Oxfordshire Amateurs, the county's premier wandering club, celebrate their 75th anniversary with four days of cricket at Standlake next week.
However, the festival will be tinged with sadness following the deaths in recent months of two distinguished former presidents Pat Florey and John Edwards.
The 'week' opens with a match against Wiltshire Queries on Tuesday July 1, followed by games against other traditional opponents the Old Bloxhamists and Gloucestershire Gipsies.
The final game against the President's XI on the Friday will be followed by a pig-roast supper.
To mark the anniversary, another former president, Tony Lurcock, has produced a special SOA brochure covering momentous events in the club's history.
The club plays nearly 50 games per season, many against Oxfordshire clubs and schools, while the western tour to Somerset and Devon has been going for more than 70 years.
