AFTER a busy opening few days in the transfer market, Oxford United could be set to add three further new faces this week.

The U’s completed deals for Notts County attacker Ruben Rodrigues, Blackpool defender Jordan Thorniley and MK Dons midfielder Josh McEachran last week – all on free transfers due to their contracts expiring.

It is understood United are now set to get the chequebook out with a move for Millwall forward Tyler Burey.

Southwark News reports that a bid for the 22-year-old has been accepted, with the U’s understood to be in pole position to get his signature.

Clubs in Sky Bet Championship have reportedly expressed an interest in Burey this summer.

Burey signed for Millwall from AFC Wimbledon in June 2019, while he agreed a new ‘long-term’ contract with the club last summer, meaning if United are to snap him up, a transfer fee will be involved.

He made 26 appearances for Millwall last season, as the Lions finished eighth in the second tier, missing out on the play-offs by a single point.

This newspaper understands that United are also eyeing up a move for Arsenal midfielder Tim Akinola.

The 22-year-old holding midfielder joined the Gunners from Huddersfield Town in August 2020, with his contract believed to run until 2024.

Akinola is yet to make a first team appearance for Arsenal’s first team, but has experience with the Under-21s side in the Papa John’s Trophy.

He joined Vanarama National League side Chesterfield on loan last season, helping them get to the play-off final, where they were beaten Rodrigues’ Notts County side.

As previously reported by the Oxford Mail, the U’s are also chasing England Under-20 goalkeeper James Beadle.

The Brighton & Hove Albion 18-year-old is highly regarded at the Amex Stadium, therefore any move would almost certainly be on a loan basis.

This newspaper understands if agreed and finalised, the deal could be announced early this week.
