BANBURY United have bolstered their ranks with the addition of experienced Football League player Lawson D’Ath.

The 30-year-old Witney-born midfielder has enjoyed stints with the likes of Northampton Town, Luton Town and MK Dons in recent years – winning promotion with two of them.

He joins the Puritans after his contract with relegated Vanarama National League side Yeovil Town expired.

D’Ath told the club website: “I’m really happy to be joining Banbury United. I consider myself local, being from Witney and having played for Adderbury Park as a junior.

“I have lots of friends in Banbury. I worked under Mark Jones when he was a coach at Yeovil and he was one of the main reasons I’ve chosen to come to Banbury. I know we will both give it our all.”

D’Ath came through the youth ranks with Reading, joining Yeovil in the third tier on loan as a 19-year-old.

He then had further loan spells with Cheltenham Town, Exeter City and Dagenham & Redbridge, before a permanent move to Northampton, where he helped the Cobblers to the Sky Bet League Two title in 2016.

D’Ath then joined Luton, where he missed out on another fourth tier promotion after the Hatters were beaten by Blackpool in the play-off semi-finals.

After leaving Luton, D’Ath joined MK Dons and was part of the side which won automatic promotion from League Two during the 2018/19 season.

Having amassed 163 Football League appearances, D’Ath returned to Yeovil and has since played in a further 82 games for the club.
