Eve Johnson Houghton was delighted with Beaver Patrol's terrific effort to finish second to 20-1 shot Big Timer in the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday.
Johnson Houghton, who trains at Blewbury, near Didcot, cheered on the six-year-old, who came home first on the stand sides, but was half a length adrift of Linda Perratt's Scottish raider on the far side.
King's Apostle was a nose back in third.
"I thought we were drawn on the right side, but it turns out we weren't," said Johnson Houghton. "We won the race on our side.
"The horse is an absolute legend. He has taken us everywhere, he's won in Ireland and he's run in Dubai.
"He was fifth in last year's Stewards' Cup and now he's taken second in a Wokingham.
"We might go to the Stewards' Cup again. There's the temptation to maybe try and nick a little Listed race somewhere, but he's not quite up to Group 3 class."
