Brendan McKerchar is on course for a double Oxford Blue after only resuming serious cricket this year.
The 25-year-old batsman was scrum half in the rugby Varsity Match in December, and could soon be the first player to 'double up' since John Allen in 2003.
McKerchar, who represented Scotland at under 19 and A level in cricket before playing rugby professionally, hopes to feature against Cambridge in The Parks from July 1-4.
He has already played in the Twenty20 match, where he top-scored with 50, and yesterday's One-Day Varsity Match at Lord's.
McKerchar said: "If I can carry on with the form I have shown, I would like to think I can make it.
"It will all come down to the captain picking me.
"We have one more three-day game against the MCC, so I have two more innings to prove myself.
"I am hopeful of getting selected.
"It would be a real achievement. I've just got to go for it.
"I'm quite enjoying playing cricket again "The last time I played competitively was at Durham as an undergraduate.
"I'm mainly a batsman, but I do bowl a bit.
"I had a stress fracture of my pelvis, which has stopped me doing much bowling."
McKerchar played rugby professionally for Border Reivers for four years after leaving Durham and made the full Scotland squad.
But he returned to student life for a two-year MSC in science and medicine of athletic performance after the Scottish club folded.
"I applied to come to Oxford after leaving Durham, but then got an offer of a full-time contract, and I thought that would be too good to miss.
"I kept in touch with Steve Hill (Oxford director of rugby) and when he saw that Reivers were in trouble, he gave me a call.
"Rugby was my main priority coming to Oxford.
"But I got asked by the captain just after the Varsity Match if I would be interested in coming down to practice.
"I thought why not and my coach from school has always said I should get back into it.
"While I was at school I played both sports, but when I went to university it was a bit harder.
"Rugby just took over for me."
McKerchar has not yet achieved a full Scotland cap at either sport, but a Dark Blue double is definitely on the cards.
