A SCHOOL in Oxford has reached the quarter finals of a national basketball competition for the first time.
Cheney School’s Year 9 team beat their counterparts from St Albans’ Beaumont School 90-44, in the last 16 of the Basketball England Dynamik National Schools Competition.
It follows the Headington school’s success earlier this year when the Under-15 and Under-16 girls teams became county champions last month, while the Under-19 girls team beat The Cherwell School 31-23 in February, to take the county champions crown.
Cheney headteacher Rob Pavey said: “This shows how the coaches’ and students’ sustained commitment to the sport at Cheney pays off, and we congratulate all the teams and staff members involved.”
