Oxford may only have one player in the Oxfordshire team facing Staffordshire in the quarter-finals of the Minor Counties Trophy at Leek on Sunday.
But the Home Counties Premier League Division 1 champions have been providing some more help behind the scenes.
Oxon captain Ian Hawtin explained: "Staffordshire play in the Eastern Division of the championship, so are not regular opponents for us.
"I have spoken to Jason Harrison from Oxford because he has faced them quite a lot for Bucks.
"I've got a few bits of information from him, so hopefully that will help.
"We now know a little bit, but not a great deal.
"The last time we played Staffordshire was eight or nine years ago."
Paceman Jack Brooks is Oxford's sole representative in the county side.
Oxon make two changes to the team that thrashed Bedfordshire to reach the last eight.
Off-spinner Paul McMahon comes in for batsman Rob Williams, who is unavailable.
Charlie Knightley replaces Kidlington captain Shahbaz Ali to make his first trophy appearance of the campaign.
Staffs went through their group unbeaten and managed to skittle the 2007 winners Suffolk for just 62 in their last match.
Seamer Will Purser took 5-14 from eight overs in that contest, while his side scored almost two more runs per over than they conceded in their impressive campaign.
Hawtin said: "When you get to this stage, they are all good sides, but we are confident that we can do well.
"If we play to our potential, we have every chance of winning."
Should Oxon defeat Staffs, they will host Berkshire or Cambridgeshire in the semi-final on Sunday, July 13.
The final will be at Lord's on Sunday, August 6.
