Oxford United's goalkeeping coach, Alan Hodgkinson, who will be presented with the MBE by The Queen at Buckingham Palace tomorrow, says the award is not just for him, but for everyone he has worked with.
Hodgkinson, 71, who was recognised for his services to football in the New Year's Honours list, first played for Sheffield United in 1953.
He made nearly 600 appearances for the Blades between then and 1971, also playing five times for England.
Hodgkinson, known as Hodgy, will attend Buckingham Palace with his wife, Brenda, two daughters, Karen and Paula, and son Andrew.
He said: "It's lovely for the family. But this award is for a lot of people I've worked with, some fantastic people at Oxford United and at other clubs, and for the supporters."
