St Christopher's and St Aloysius were the first winners of the Inter Primary Schools (Year 5 and 6) tournament.
St Christopher's beat Cutteslowe 2-0 in a penalty flicks shoot-out after a competitive boys' final which had ended 0-0, while St Aloysius overcame St Andrew's 2-0 in the final to be worthy winners of the girls' competition.
The event, held at Oxford Hawks and run by the Oxford Hockey Development Group, saw 12 primary schools from within the city participate, and was the culmination of the work over the last 12 months of community coach Greg Wade.
The Oxford Hockey Development Group comprises representatives from three Oxford hockey clubs - City of Oxford, Rover Oxford and Oxford Hawks - Oxford Brookes University and the Schools Partnership.
It was set up 18 months ago with support from England Hockey. The development group appointed Wade as its community coach with the aim of promoting hockey and delivering high quality coaching throughout all of the city's primary and secondary state schools.
The tournament was a huge success, enjoyed by all, with some excellent hockey skills on show. It is hoped this will now become an annual event.
