OXFORD United’s January deadline day is underway after the club confirmed the signing of Hull City striker Tyler Smith on a loan deal until the end of the season.
United have reportedly beaten interest from other Sky Bet League One clubs to land the 24-year-old, who becomes the second player to join Karl Robinson’s side on loan from Championship side Hull this month.
He follows the arrival of left back Brandon Fleming, who has made four appearances since joining on January 6.
Smith’s name may already be familiar to U’s supporters, having scored a 90th minute winner for Swindon Town at the Kassam Stadium back in November 2020.
United’s bitter rivals struck twice late on to win 2-1 – their first victory over the U’s in 19 years.
Smith bagged a brace for Hull in a 4-1 victory at Wigan Athletic at the beginning of the month, and has three league goals from 14 appearances so far this season, although only five of those matches have been starts.
Smith came through the ranks at Sheffield United, enjoying loan spells at Barrow, Doncaster Rovers, Bristol Rovers, Rochdale and Swindon.
It was at the latter where he impressed in the 2020/21 season, scoring 10 goals in 26 matches across all competitions.
Smith joined Hull in August 2021, signing a two-year deal with a club option of a further year.
