OXFORD United have completed the signing of Nottingham Forest attacker Ateef Konate on loan until the end of the season.

The 21-year-old had been linked with a move to Sky Bet Championship side Sunderland earlier this month, however has opted to join the U’s.

The attacking midfielder, who arrived in England from Le Havre in September 2020, has scored eight goals in his last eight games for Forest’s Under-21 side and was voted the Premier League 2 player of the month for October.

He told the United website: “I am really looking forward to it. I have been made to feel very welcome and it’s a great club.

“I want to play games, score my first goal and help the team, and I know there are two home games this week so I am really looking forward to training and then being part of it.”

Head coach Karl Robinson added: “His scoring record this season is excellent.

“He can play all across the front line or as a 10 – he is fast, very skilful and really exciting to watch.

“It’s great to get this over the line ahead of the window closing and to have an extra day or two to work with him ahead of the game against Barnsley on Wednesday.”

Konate played 90 minutes in Forest’s Carabao Cup ties against Bradford City and Wolverhampton Wanderers last season, in addition to a brief cameo from the bench in the 3-0 Championship win over Barnsley.
