Oxford continue to set the pace at the top of the he table with a convincing seven-wicket victory over a strong Henley side at Roman Way on Saturday in the Home Counties Premier League Division 1.

Graham Charlesworth took a wicket with his first ball and then made a rapid half-century, but it was essentially an all-round team performance that saw the reigning champions home.

After putting Henley in to bat, Oxford's opening attack had little luck.

However, Charlesworth and Rupert Evans later used all their experience to put Henley under immense pressure.

The bowling was backed up by some excellent fielding, with Jack Brooks producing a great piece of work to run out the dangerous Todd Ferguson.

Evans continued to bowl in miserly fashion, and with some assistance from Joe Porter, Oxford dismissed the opposition for 165 in 63 overs.

Evans finished with 3-43 of 18 overs, while left-am spinner Porter wrapped up the tail to take 3-5 off just four overs.

In reply, Henley's strong seam attack put Jason Harrison and Adam Cook under some extreme pressure.

The opening pair put on a dogged 51, before Stewart Laudat immediately looked in excellent touch.

Oxford lost two more wickets before a match-winning stand between Raj Sharma and Charlesworth, who produced a dominant 50 off only 40 balls.

The pair saw Oxford home with two overs to spare for a win that increases their lead to 21 points.
