MATTY Taylor says he is not getting distracted by his contract situation at Oxford United, with the striker set to become a free agent in the summer.

Taylor is one of eight U’s players out of contract in the summer, although two of those have one-year options.

Alex Gorrin, John Mousinho, Ben Davis, James Golding and Slavi Spasov are all also out of contract, while Jodi Jones and Kie Plumley have one-year options in their deals.

Taylor told BBC Radio Oxford’s Five Minute Fans Forum his focus is on this season, while admitting his performances have to improve.

United’s No 9 has scored just five goals this season, however only two of those have come in Sky Bet League One – both in the 4-0 win at home to Port Vale last month.

The 32-year-old has also scored twice in the Papa John’s Trophy and once in the Emirates FA Cup.

On his contract situation, Taylor said: “I’m just concentrating on this season really.

“I probably need to start playing a bit better to be honest, and then think about those things later in the season.

“I just want to concentrate on my football and that’ll take care of itself, I’m sure.”

Taylor has scored 63 goals for the U’s and is seventh in the club’s all-time top scorers list.

He is 12 behind Paul Moody and Bud Houghton, while Graham Atkinson tops the charts with 107 goals.

Asked whether he feels he could break the record, Taylor said: “It’s quite a few goals away.

“I just concentrate on, as boring as it sounds, scoring the next goal and wherever I end up, I’ll look back and I’m sure I’ll be proud of how many I’ve achieved.”

Taylor was also quizzed on the club’s training facilities, for which he commended.

“I think they’re really good, we’ve just moved onto a new set of pitches,” he said.

“We can’t complain about that, and the building’s being updated all the time.

“We’ve got our breakout room with ping pong and darts, and the lads spend a lot of time in there together.

“There’s really good facilities, and as a player, it’s where we are every day.

“It’s pleasing to come in and everyone comes in with a smile on their face.”

Elliott Moore was also a guest on the interview, and was asked on his preference between playing in a three-man defence or a back four.

He said: “I don’t mind either, I didn’t mind when we played as a back three and I don’t mind playing in a back four.

“I’ve always played in a back four, I’ve only ever played in a back three when I came here and we changed to that formation last year.

“I genuinely don’t mind either.”
