JODI Jones has gained a further two international caps, while a former Oxford United player wrote a slice of history at the weekend.
On Thursday, Jones picked up his third cap for Malta when he played the final 10 minutes in a 2-2 draw with Greece.
He then started and played 67 minutes in Malta’s 1-0 defeat to the Republic of Ireland yesterday evening.
Cardiff City’s Callum Robinson scored the only goal of the game, in the second half.
“They’re the ones I do like the best, when you’ve not got much time to think and you make yourself as big as you can to try and claw it out.”

Jones had an early chance to give Malta the lead when he got into space, but he couldn’t beat Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher with 12 minutes on the clock.
Later in the game, former U’s midfielder Mark Sykes made his senior international debut, and became the first Belfast-born player to represent Ireland since 1946.
Sykes switched allegiance from Northern Ireland in August 2020, having played 11 times at Under-21 level, and was called up to senior squads without making his debut.
