A bumper night of greyhound racing awaits at Oxford Stadium as the semi-finals of the Gain Greyhound Nutrition Oxfordshire Gold Cup and Maiden Vase take place.
The first three greyhounds in each of tonight’s semi-finals will advance to next week’s two Grand Finals worth £5,000 to the winner.
Racing begins at 6.35pm with seven graded races scheduled between our main events.
Gain Greyhound Nutrition Maiden Vase
Semi-final one, 7.28pm: Charity Shay, Ranches Rogue, Savana Raven, Outdoor Ice, Roanna Scooby, Free Style Sue.
The fast-starting Outdoor Ice sets the standard in this competitive first semi-final where all greyhounds recorded times within three tenths of a second of each other in round one.
Trained by Matt Dartnell, Outdoor Ice appears to hold the early pace in this race and a start equivalent to what we saw last Friday could see him make every yard.
Keep an eye on Free Style Sue in the striped jacket. She was denied a clear run in round one but still dead heated with Ranches Rogue and will no doubt improve.
Selection – Free Style Sue.
Gain Greyhound Nutrition Maiden Vase
Semi-final two, 7.46pm: Barley Panther, Chubbys Best, Saffrons Dash, Oh Tokyo, Droopys Chaser, Supa Nova.
Barley Panther justified his short odds last week to run out an impressive Round One winner.
Matt Dartnell’s two-year-old is unbeaten in three runs at Oxford and holds the aces with an inside trap draw tonight. He’ll take some stopping, as will Supa Nova in the striped jacket.
Selection – Barley Panther.
Gain Greyhound Nutrition Oxfordshire Gold Cup
Semi-final one, 7.28pm: Master Ten Ten, Antigua Socks, Swift Iconic, Burnchurch Mick, TwoLengthsTooGud, Mustang Sam.
Antigua Socks won a messy round one heat last week in 27.60 after missing the break and entering the first bend in sixth position.
Master Ten Ten was another to miss the break in his respective heat, yet he rallied to finish only a short-head behind pace-setter Coppice Josie in 27.13. Mustang Sam in the stripes meanwhile has won his last three races at Oxford.
A really competitive semi-final.
Selection – Master Ten Ten.
Gain Greyhound Nutrition Oxfordshire Gold Cup
Semi-final two, 7.28pm: Coppice Josie, Slider McCoy, Annual Sydney, Antigua WoofWoof, Front Mali, Keeperhill Vic.
Coppice Josie’s performance was the standout of her five rivals in tonight’s second semi-final, and Burford-based Kevin Hutton has every chance of cheering home his talented bitch again.
She’s a proven fast starter and should enjoy the inside draw. Front Male and Annual Sydney can be dangers on their day and will be hopeful of advancing to the final too.
Selection – Annual Sydney.
